A three-story unreinforced brick building was retrofitted with new “propped shear walls” oriented in the transverse building direction. This system consists of single diagonal steel braces coupled with very short concrete shear walls. In addition to strengthening the wood diaphragms at each level and the complete renovation of the building, the facade of the building was completely removed and replaced.
$1.5M construction cost.
